Logical Reasoning with Temporal Constraints

چکیده

Logic is useful for reasoning and knowledge representation in AI systems. Logical reasoning has an advantage over other forms of reasoning in that it has strong theoretical foundations. But logical reasoning also has a disadvantage: it is computationally difficult. In addition, when logical reasoning is used in physical autonomous agents there might exist real-time requirements. Performing computationally difficult tasks under real-time constraints can be challenging. This work investigates what can be done to overcome the problem. First some fundamental theoretical limits of time requirements for logical reasoning are presented. Then some current methods for efficient logical reasoning are discussed. Finally a new approach is suggested: applying LDS, labelled deductive systems, methodology to active logic.

Reasoning on Interval and Point-based Disjunctive Metric Constraints in Temporal Contexts

We introduce a temporal model for reasoning on disjunctive metric constraints on intervals and time points in temporal contexts. This temporal model is composed of a labeled temporal algebra and its reasoning algorithms. The labeled temporal algebra defines labeled disjunctive metric pointbased constraints, where each disjunct in each input disjunctive constraint is univocally associated to a l...

Deductive Planning with Temporal Constraints

Temporal Action Logic is a well established logical formalism for reasoning about action and change using an explicit time representation that makes it suitable for applications that involve complex temporal reasoning. We take advantage of constraint satisfaction technology to facilitate such reasoning through temporal constraint networks. Extensions are introduced that make generation of actio...

A Logic for Constrained Process Calculi with Applications to Molecular Biology

Linear implication can represent state transitions, but real transition systems operate under temporal, stochastic or probabilistic constraints that are not directly representable in ordinary linear logic. We propose a general modal extension of intuitionistic linear logic where logical truth is indexed by constraints and hybrid connectives combine constraint reasoning with logical reasoning. T...

Temporal Description Logic

This paper introduces a new logical formalism, intended for temporal conceptual modelling, as a natural combination of the well-known description logic DLR and point-based linear temporal logic with Since and Until. We define a query language (where queries are non-recursive Datalog programs and atoms are complex DLRUS expressions) and investigate the problem of checking query containment under...

An Integrated Logic for Termination and Non-Termination Reasoning

We propose a logical framework for specifying and proving assertions about program termination and non-termination. Although program termination has been well studied, it is usually added as an external component to a specification logic. Here we propose to integrate termination requirements directly into our specification logic, as temporal constraints for each execution phase of every method....
